Isolation and Genetic Screening of TFAP2B gene in Dogs with Patent Ductus Arteriosus
Background
The TFAP2B gene encodes a member of the AP-2 family of transcription factors and is a responsible for a familial patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in human. PDA is the most common congenital heart defect in dogs.
Aim
To isolate canine TFAP2B gene for genetic screening in dogs with PDA.
Material and Methods
We isolated the full length coding exon of TFAP2B gene. The canine TFAP2B gene was screened for identifying novel mutation(s) in dogs with PDA.
Results
To date, no mutation causing coding sequencing alteration has been identified in dogs with PDA. However, we are still collecting samples and screening this gene in various breeds of dogs with PDA.
Conclusion
Canine TFAP2B gene has been isolated and is now available for genetic screening for genetic aetiology in dogs with congenital heart defects, especially PDA.
