Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate course will be open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc. � are currently in a managerial or leadership role in the practice.
VSPN CE Course: Open to VIN and VSPN members. This course has been RACE approved for veterinarians and veterinary technicians/technologists.(22-30316) This course has been approved by the VHMA for CVPM credits.(ID 17-09)

Course Description:
Often, we feel like our heads are spinning with the numerous responsibilities we have throughout the day. Many of these responsibilities are directly or indirectly related with the staff that we manage on a day-to-day basis. When you think about the many different personalities and behavioral styles our staff have, the different learning styles each have, and the different stages in their development in their careers, we must be many faces in our role as a practice manager. In this course, you will learn how to organize the many roles you play in the workplace into eight categories for a better understanding of what they are. These eight roles help you to organize your thoughts about what is expected of a person holding a position of leadership.

Week 1 (Real Time Session September 7): Communication and Building the Team
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Week 2 (Real Time Session September 14): Performance, Projects and Training
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Week 3 (Real Time Session September 21): Vision, Goals and Time Management
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Week 4 (Real Time Session September 28): Inspiring Change
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.

Required Textbook: There is no required textbook for this course.

About the Instructor:
Julie Singer, LVT, CVPM is a 1979 graduate of Houston Community College Veterinary Technology Program, has attended Wharton County Junior College and Houston Community College business courses, and completed the Human Resource Program at Rice University. Julie is an editor and contributor to the Mosby Comprehensive Review for Veterinary Technicians textbook. Julie has lectured for Merck, Intervet, Shirt Sleeve Seminars Management Workshops and has lectured at Wild West Veterinary Conference, Seminars@ Sea, and AVMA Annual Convention and TVMA. She has taught continuing education for Veterinary Support Personnel Network since 2012. Julie is a board moderator for Veterinary Support Personnel Network, member of Veterinary Team Association of Texas, National Association of Veterinary Technicians, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Veterinarians, Veterinary Hospital Managers Association, Certified Veterinary Practice Manager�s Association, Society for Human Resource Management and her local Houston Veterinary Practice Manager Association. An LVT since 1979 and CVPM since 2001, she is a practice management consultant and currently manages a large AAHA practice.

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.

*Note: "This program 22-30316 is approved by the AAVSB RACE to offer a total of 6.00 CE Credits (6.00 max) being available to any one veterinarian: and/or 6.00 Veterinary Technician CE Credits (6.00 max). This RACE approval is for the subject matter categories of: Category Three: Non-Scientific-Practice Management/Professional Development using the delivery method of Interactive-Distance.
