Course Information:
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the constant demands of work and personal life? The pressure can sometimes feel unbearable, and the effects can be detrimental to your well-being. Join us as we explore the impact of stress on both your personal and professional lives. Learn valuable techniques to better manage and balance your responsibilities, life balance needs, and ultimately improve your communication with others. By the end of this course, you will emerge as a more confident and effective communicator, have developed a deeper understanding of effective stress management, and be equipped with the tools to reduce stress and improve professional and personal relationships.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of key areas in both personal and professional life to identify imbalances
  • Develop strategies to improve areas that are out of balance
  • Implement small, actionable changes to promote equilibrium in all aspects of life
  • Establish boundaries to maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • Integrate techniques to introduce boundary setting in daily routines and practices
  • Support colleagues in finding balance through encouragement and resources
  • Understand and employ effective communication techniques to reduce stress and conflict, and to prevent burnout
  • Enhance stress management skills within the workplace environment
Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VSPN CE course will be open for enrollment to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, and others actively interested in Balancing Their Lives and Managing Their Stress.

RACE Accreditation: This program has been submitted for RACE approval (but is not yet approved) for 4.5 hours of continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary technicians/technologists in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval.

VHMA Accreditation: This course has been approved by VHMA for CVPM credit. (#08-21)

Course Agenda:

Week 1 (Real Time Session November 6): Assessing Balance
Participants will engage in a thorough evaluation of key areas in their personal and professional lives to identify imbalances. Focus will be on developing techniques to improve areas of imbalance and make small changes to set boundaries to achieve more balance.

Week 2 (Real Time Session November 13): Stress Management
This week we will focus on the topic of stress and its impact on both personal and professional well-being. Additionally, we will delve into the issue of workplace grief and provide insights on how to identify and address compassion fatigue. Finally, we will explore strategies for achieving a healthy work-life balance to effectively manage and reduce stress levels.

Week 3 (Real Time Session November 20): Understanding Burnout and Supporting Coworkers
Conduce a thorough assessment of burnout and devise strategies to address it. Focus on communication strategies aimed at mitigating stress, resolving conflicts and addressing burnout. Additionally, we will discuss means to support colleagues in managing their work-life balance effectively. We will discuss how to enhance overall stress management within your practice.

Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. To learn more about the requirements for earning a CE certificate, please refer to Receiving Your CE Credit and Course Completion Certificate.
