Course Information:
We all want our patients to be safe and to reduce the risk of harm, but what does ‘safe’ really mean and what contributes towards a positive safety culture within veterinary practice? What have other industries such commercial aviation, healthcare, nuclear power and rail got to do with reliably achieving positive outcomes within your clinics? How do we respond to unexpected outcomes and errors in a way that supports learning and improvement? What does systems thinking mean and why does this matter for your team? What is the relationship between psychology, behaviour science, ergonomics and reducing risk to veterinary patients? We will explore these questions and many more throughout this course and provide you with the underlying knowledge, supporting science as well as some tangible guidance and tools.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • define the concept of patient safety within veterinary practice.

  • utilize models of incident causation.
