Abstract

There is a significant lack of hard scientific data to rely on when investigating disease in Moray eels. This case study aims to add data to the general knowledge base. This case also demonstrates the importance of maintaining a fundamental principles approach. These unusual animals do have problems that are quite aligned to common thinking as seen by veterinarians in normal veterinary practice. Their sedentary behaviour does make it difficult to assess whether an individual’s health is compromised or not. Thus, we will show the benefit of making use of diagnostic tools and thorough clinical examinations to assist in determining health status. To the authors knowledge this is the first reported case of defined myocarditis in a moray eel.
