Introduction
Ultrasonography is a relatively easy, safe and noninvasive examination method which can be used in diagnosis of ocular disorders as complementary to routine ophthalmic examinations.
Objectives
The aim of the study is that the relationship between the ultrasonographic examination of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye and the intraocular pressure.
Methods
Fifty dogs were used as a materials. Only right eyes of dogs were evaluated without age, race, sex and eye diseases classifications. All examinations were performed within a certain order on the eye examination. Schirmer test kit was used to measure the quantitative amount of tear secretion, the eye examination was made by light source, TonoVet was used as rebound tonometer for intraocular pressure measurement, direct ophthalmoscopic examination and ultrasonographic examinations were performed.
Results
Ultrasonographic examination showed right anterior segment depth: 0.899 cm; Right front segment width: 1,827 cm; Right eye posterior segment depth: 0.818 cm; Right eye posterior segment width: 1,855 cm. In the analysis of the correlation, intraocular pressure increased (n: 6) statistical results; Moderate correlation was determined between intraocular pressure and anterior segment depth (medium correlation between 0.4–0.6, r: 0.551). High correlation was also found between intraocular pressure and anterior segment width (high correlation between 0,6–0,8, r: 0,609).
Conclusions
There was a statistically positive change in the measurements of the anterior and posterior segments in intra ocular pressure high. Therefore, in other pathological conditions that may cause glaucoma and intraocular pressure, ultrasound-guided examinations have led to the conclusion that glaucoma can be diagnosed precisely.
