The efficacy of Revolution® (selamectin) against S. scabiei, O. cynotis, A. tubaeforme and T. cati was evaluated in a multi-center study employing 75 veterinary clinics and 197 households. A total of 473 dogs and cats were enrolled.
Diagnosis of mite infestation was based on the microscopic presence of mites in either skin scrapings or aural debris. A fecal centrifugation-flotation method was used to detect fecal ova. Six mg/kg of Revolution was applied on day 0 and if needed, day 30.
Percentage reductions for viable S. scabiei infestation for RevolutionÒ treatments on days 30 and 60 versus day 0 were 96.8% and 100% respectively. Percentage reductions for O. cynotis were 90.3% on day 30 and 98.6% on day 60. Percentage reductions in geometric mean A. tubaeforme egg counts were 98.3% and 100% on days 30 and 60 respectively. Percentage reductions in geometric mean T. cati egg counts were 95.1% and 100% on days 30 and 60 respectively.
RevolutionÒ administered topically at monthly intervals as a unit dose providing the recommended minimum of 6 mg/kg is safe and effective against natural infestation of sarcoptic mange in dogs, ear mites in dogs and cats and intestinal hookworms and roundworms in cats.
