The study of reptiles is gaining more and more importance both for conservation issues, and by the increased interest in their use as pets. The tortoise are ectothermic, which requires special care when handling and bred in captivity. In Brazil, the tortoise piranga is probably the most chelonian that has been kept in captivity as a pet due to widespread illegal trade and cultural factors. Currently the mortality rate of this species is increasing more and more in breeding due to lack of knowledge about the nutritional management. The survey was conducted in Bioparque Jao, Goiania - Goias in the period 23 September 2009 to 20 January 2010. The animals were separated by age and sex. The method used was direct observation of preference as to foods of plant and animal origin. Ages and both sexes have a greater preference for fruits; the smell may be released by the sugar present in such a way to appeal to animals. Males have a greater appreciation for vegetables. The animal, referring to meat and dog food for protein, when placed are consumed with a balanced interest between the sexes.
