A Clinical case study will be presented on a case of Toxoplasmosis
which occurred in a ten day old Australian Sealion pup (Neophoca Cinerea).
A study of the life cycle of Toxoplasma will be considered with special
reference to the involvement of feline species and their possible involvement in this
case.
A study is being carried out in conjunction with a medical practitioner
at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Samples have been collected from Pinnipeds and Cetaceans not only in this
park but also from other parks to try to establish the immunological status Australia wide.
The disease is a Zoonosis. Blood samples have been collected from the
animal handlers in the park. The incidence of positive titers in humans in Queensland and
Australia will be discussed.
