Clinical veterinarians have long recognized that hematology results are only subjective indicators of health or disease.

Serial blood samples were taken from single venipuncture sites on three killer whales at Sealand of the Pacific. Evaluation of these samples demonstrates the degree of variation of hematology values which can occur as a function of the instant during which the sample was taken. These variations appear to be clinically significant in interpreting hematology results.
