In the following document it is shown the research group "elite" and its line of work "latitude 4,15" from the University of the Llanos and its tasks that have been developed through the same group in the field of animal welfare, specifically the methodology to the welfare of small animals in disasters: forest fires; because of the great need that occurs in our region the "lowland tropics" in terms of addressing these incidents, and, being sure that as professionals in the area "veterinary medicine" we are primarily called to look after the welfare of the animals likely to be affected in this type of very common problems in our city, state, and country generally. Since our comprehensive training regarding laws, animal handling, animal physiology, community education and especially the clinical approach of animals that may become victims of these incidents, we are able to generate the necessary knowledge to apply and replicate to the academic community, farmers, rescue groups, authorities, etc. In order to ensure a humane and professional treatment mainly to the humans, but also to animals, ensuring transport, post-trauma monitoring, return to the environment and everyday surroundings, and in situ and ex situ approach, obtaining a holistic position on risk management in emergencies and/or natural disasters in the tropics of the Colombian eastern plains.
