The vibrating platforms are machines that promote whole-body vibration. Based on the combination of frequencies and amplitudes may be observed an increase of muscle activity, and vascular and endocrine effects. The aim of this report was to describe the effect of the whole body vibration (WBV) platform in a female dog with closed pyometra. A 2-year-old, 22 kg, intact Pit Bull female dog was admitted due to edema of the vulva without signs of discharge. Two months ago, the female dog had given birth, and no problem was reported. Physiological parameters, hematology, serum biochemistry and urinalysis were within normal range. An abdominal ultrasound revealed an enlarged uterus with hypoechoic luminal content suggestive of closed pyometra. The dog was submitted to a unique session of WBV platform (TheraPlate) at frequency of 30 Hz for 5 minutes, followed by 50 Hz for 5 minutes, and finishing with 30 Hz for 5 minutes. Purulent discharge was initiated 6 minutes following the exposure to WBV and remained continuous through session. E. coli spp. was isolated from discharge culture. Cephalexin was prescribed for 10 days. Seven days after WBV platform session, the vulva had normal aspect and no signal of discharge was observed. The uterine content was not visualized by ultrasound exam. However, ovariohysterectomy was indicated. Cysts on both ovaries and left uterine horn were found during the surgical procedure. Apparently, this is the first report about the use of WBV platform to stimulate cervix opening in case of closed pyometra.
