Introduction

Hepatic lipidosis has a propensity for the accumulation of lipid in hepatocytes. Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) features an infiltration of fibrous and/or fibrofatty, mostly on the right ventricle. In the present case, the ARVC was newly diagnosed during the treatment of hepatic lipidosis.

Objectives

A Turkish Angora cat (13-year-old, intact female) with hepatic lipidosis was referred with a week history of anorexia and vomiting.

Method

A hepatic lipidosis cat was hospitalized. After thirteen days of hospitalization, dyspnea and cough was observed. Pleural effusion and ascites was detected through radiologic examination. Chylous effusion was revealed by the fluid analysis both from thoracocentesis and abdominocentesis. Echocardiography revealed dilation of right atrium and ventricle, right ventricle hypokinetic, paradoxical septal motion, tricuspid regurgitation and mild mitral regurgitation. Electrocardiogram showed arrhythmias of ventricular premature complex and atrioventricular block. Based on echocardiography and ECG findings, the tentative diagnosis of ARVC was made. The cat was euthanized for poor response of right-sided congestive heart failure treatment.

Results

Histopathologic findings revealed dilation and wall thinning of right atrium and ventricle with fibrofatty, which are correspondent to the ARVC.

Conclusions

Hepatic lipidosis and ARVC share similarities in disorder of lipid metabolism. In this case, although the studies between lipid metabolism and both diseases have not been reported, further investigation into the possibility of their interactions is thought to be conducted.
