Vaginal Prolapse Concurrent with Presence of Bladder in Prolapsed Mass in a Doberman
Vaginal prolapse occurs during oestrus or proestrus because of oedematous enlargement of vaginal tissue. A case of vaginal prolapse with concurrent presence of bladder in prolapsed mass is presented.
An 18 months Doberman with 30 kg body weight that was in oestrus phase had irreducible vaginal prolapse with sever mucous oedema. Examination under general anaesthesia revealed the presence of bladder in prolapsed mass. Temporary reduction of the prolapse one day before operation was unsuccessfully. After medical stabilization, definitive surgical reconstruction was completed by a ventral midline approach. At first the evacuated bladder was protruded from inside abdomen. Then the prolapsed vagina was reduced and at last ovariohysterectomy was performed.
In vaginal prolapse/hyperplasia ovariohysterectomy is strongly recommended. It seems that with ventral midline laparotomy the everted bladder could be reduced completely without any chief complication.
