Mammary tumors in laboratory animals are common in rats, less common in guinea pigs and extremely rare in rabbits and hamsters. This report describes a case of mammary gland carcinoma in a Persian rabbit.

Three year old Persian rabbit was refer to the Clinic of School of Veterinary Medicine, Ferdowsi University of Mashad, having a tumoral mass on her left thoracic mammary gland. The rabbit was in good body conditions and no abnormality was found in clinical examination. Radiographic findings confirm no metastasis in the thoracic region. Under general anesthesia using Diazepam and Ketamin total mastectomy was performed on the left thoracic and first abdominal mammary glands. The incision line was closed routinely and rabbit received 10 mg/kg IM Cefasolin for 3 days as prophylaxis.

In histopathological examination the mammary tumor was diagnosed as a mammary gland carcinoma. Mammary gland carcinoma is actually malignant mammary tumors. The case presented here follows up to 3 month after surgery and no recurrence or metastasis was observed during this period.
