Introduction
Expansion of pet keeping (in Tehran) and referring to the Small Animal Veterinary Hospital of University of Tehran, the necessity of a survey about the variety of referring pet owners seems perceptible.
Objectives
In this survey 300 pet owners who refer to the small Animal Veterinary Hospital of University of Tehran were randomly selected. One hundred twenty-six (42%) of pet owners were male and 174 (58%) of them were female.
Methods
Two hundred five (68.33%) pet owners kept dogs (101 male and 104 female), 75 (25%) kept cats (39 male and 36 female), 20 (6.67%) other pets: 8 (2.67%) kept rabbits, 7 (2.33%) kept hamsters and 5 (1.67%) kept squirrels.
Results
The main reasons for referring include checkup 70 (23.33%), vaccination 203 (67.67) and illness 27 (9%). Pet owners knowledge about zoonosis were sufficient.
Conclusions
The degree of educations in pet owners were under diploma 8 (2.67%), under licentiate 138 (46%), licentiate 104 (34.67%) and higher than licentiate 50 (16.67%). The satisfaction about services of small Animal Veterinary Hospital were well. This survey performed April 2012 to Nov. 2013.
