Much has been learned in recent years regarding treatment and rehabilitation of phocid pups. The California Marine Mammal Center has had a 75% success rate in rehabilitation of premature harbor seal pups (Phoca vitulina) and 68% success rate in raising all harbor seal pups combined in 1985 and 1986.

Elephant seal (Mirouga angustirostris) pups have also been very successfully raised at CMMC. Medical problems, critical infant care and the problems with the formulas will be discussed.
