Content of Malonylo Dialdehyde and Total Oxidative State of Aqueous Humour in Dogs With Senile Cataract

Introduction
The theory of free radicals is the best way to explain develops of senile cataract. Modifications in proteins are caused by oxidative stress and flagging with age of endogenic defense mechanisms protecting from free radicals [1, 2].
Materials and methods
The studies were conducted on group of 40 dogs, age 7-14 years with diagnosed senile cataract. Aqueous humour was collected at the beginning of cataract surgery. Control group consisted of 12 dogs, age 8-13 years, with excluded cataract. Aqueous humour from control dogs were collected post mortem. Malonyle dialdehyde (MDA) was measured by use of spectrophotometric analyzer (PERKIN-ELMER LS 30). Total antioxidative state (TAS) was measured by enzymatic procedure on spectrophotometer COBAS-MIRAS by Roche.
Results
Mean concentration of MDA in aqueous humour of dogs with senile cataract was 0.38±0.36 mmol/l, mean TAS value for this group was 0.23±0.11 mmol/l. These values were significantly (p<0.05) different from values of control dogs. Mean concentration of MDA in control dogs was lower 0.21±0.14 mmol/l and mean value of TAS was increased 0.58±0.32 mmol/l.
Conclusions
The resultsrevealed prevalence of peroxidative trial above free radicals neutralization, and reduction of local antioxidative defense in aqueous humour during senile cataract in dogs. Obtained results are unique for dogs and can not be compared to others, though Szaflik has obtained similar results in humans with cataract [3]. He revealed decrease in volatile fatty acids in aqueous humour connected to increase of peroxidative processes in senile cataract.
Obtained results confirm, that the cataract may be developed on the influence of free radicals.
