Welcome to PetRays, the newest folder participant in the Vet Industry message board!
We're excited by the opportunities to share knowledge and support that PetRays will bring to the VIN community. Please take a moment to welcome our newest addition to the Vet Industry message board. Remember to post your questions about the company's services. (While you're in the industry folders, check out all of the other companies that are willing and able to answer your product questions!) A Note From Paul About Industry on VIN: As a result of the recent increase in the number of industry folders on VIN, a few have written to ask if VIN has changed its position regarding independence from industry. Rest assured that nothing has changed. VIN remains committed to the VIN Policies on Commercialism. We all benefit from increased communication and access between colleagues in practice, academia, and industry. Facilitating this communication is our goal. We are pleased that more of our colleagues in industry are recognizing this and joining the discussion.

Diagnosing appendicular osteosarcoma with ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration: 36 cases
A diagnostic sample was obtained in 32 of the 36 cases. Of the 32 diagnostic samples, cytology indicated sarcoma, with a sensitivity of 97 percent and a specificity of 100 per cent. When a diagnosis of sarcoma was made on cytology, alkaline phosphatase staining indicated osteosarcoma, with a sensitivity of 100 per cent.
Differential survival in horses requiring end-to-end jejunojejunal anastomosis compared to those requiring side-to-side jejunocaecal anastomosis
Mortality rate is higher in horses that have required side-to-side jejunocaecal anastomosis than in those that needed end-to-end jejunojejunal anastomosis; and post operative colic is more common after side-to-side jejunocaecal anastomosis. No difference in mortality was found between horses with handsewn and stapled side-to-side jejunocaecal anastomoses.

Creep feeding nursing beef calves
Creep-fed calves tend to acclimate to the feedlot more smoothly than unsupplemented calves. Furthermore, provision of a high-starch creep feed may have a positive influence on subsequent carcass quality traits.

We need to remember that dental pain represents chronic pathologic or neuropathic pain. Gabapentin is a reasonable adjuvant therapy for central neuropathic pain management.

Clinical Applications of Evidence-Based Medicine
The goal of this course is to provide participants with the tools to use evidence-based medicine as part of professional practice. Unlike our human medical counterparts, the veterinary profession does not have large volumes of summarized research to support many therapies, prognoses, etiologies, and diagnoses. This means that the burden is on veterinary practitioners to treat patients based on their practice experience combined with an understanding of available evidence from research. However, not all research has the same weight. This course will describe how to glean and evaluate information from research manuscripts. The course will have five two-hour sections corresponding to each week of the five-week course. The course should be a lively discussion in the framework of real examples. Instructors: Richard Evans, Ph.D Wanda Gordon-Evans, DVM, DACVS Dates: July 3 - August 7, 2007 Real-time sessions: Tuesday evenings: July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31; 9:30 - 11:30 pm ET (Wednesdays, 01:30 - 03:30 am GMT) CE Hours: 10 Tuition: Member/$175, Non-Member/$266 by June 19, 2007; Member/$194, Non-Member/$296 after June 19, 2007 Required Textbook: None Recommended Textbooks: Handbook of Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine - Cockcroft, Holmes; Blackwell Publishing Limited - 2003 Be sure to log in to receive your member discount.
