How to Follow a Message Board Discussion
There are several ways to quickly find those lost message board threads that piqued your interest.
  • Check the MyDiscussions box on the main message boards screen to view discussions you've posted in. You can also use the tools at the bottom of discussion threads to add or remove individual discussions from your list of MyDiscussions. Read the Help Document for more details.
  • If you prefer to get an email when a new post is added to a discussion you're following, click the orange 'Subscribe' button at the bottom of the thread. Learn more.
  • Last but not least, you can also use MyActivities (Ctrl+M) to keep 'tabs' on your message board participation. Find out how.

VIN's Going Mobile!

When you want to check for responses to your message board post while you're on the run... when you need to look up a drug dosage immediately, but the computer is on the other side of the hospital... VIN Mobile to the rescue!

VIN Mobile puts many of the most in-demand features of VIN right at your fingertips!

Log in to mobile.vin.com on your mobile device to access mobile-friendly versions of these VIN favorites:

  • Drug Formularies
  • Calculators
  • MyStuff
  • VINDEX
  • VINCasts

Search and Message Boards work well on tablets, but still require some pinching and scrolling on phones. A new Search is coming that will be designed for mobile. Message Boards will be redesigned for mobile later in 2015. In the interim, SUBSCRIBE to your favorite discussions, receive the emails on your phone, and you can easily read responses on the go.

Two novel missense mutations associated with hemophilia A in a family of Boxers, and a German Shepherd dog
Here we document 2 mutations associated with canine hemophilia A associated with < 1% factor VIII activity, similar to that in people. Another related Boxer with the P471R mutation was later identified.

Stenting of the right ventricular outflow tract in 2 dogs for palliation of dysplastic pulmonary valve stenosis and right-to-left intracardiac shunting defects
Clinical signs of exercise intolerance and syncope were temporarily resolved in both dogs. However, progressive right ventricular concentric hypertrophy, recurrent stenosis, and erythrocytosis were observed over the subsequent 6 months leading to poor long-term outcomes.

Breed predisposition and heritability of atrial fibrillation in the Standardbred horse: A retrospective case-control study
Quarterhorses were significantly less likely to present with AF (OR 0.0578-0.6048), Standardbreds were more likely (OR 4.3874-10.9006). Of 22 first generation sires appearing >/=10 times in the case/control file, seven pacing and one trotting sire produced affected horses more frequently than expected (OR 2.66-66.32). Inbreeding was not a factor.

Cat With Apparent Saddle Thrombus Had A Quick Recovery: Post-Recovery Monitoring And Treatment Plan
This is a very good lesson for anyone reading this thread. Cats can and do lyse their own clots. I've seen this happen in less than an hour in a couple of cats. Because of this, I usually try to talk an owner into waiting to see what will happen over the first 48 hours or so, rather than giving up right away.

Patent Ductus Arteriosus With Massive Left Atrial Enlargement And Ascites In A Young Cat (Postmortem Silicone Cast Photos, Radiographs, And Echo Images)
This case will be only a retrospective one, because the cat died shortly after presentation. I decided to share the images, because it never ceases to amaze me how severely-damaged a cat's heart can be and still be working!

Tips For Taking Good Photographs Of Radiographs
Some of the keys to good photos are center weighted metering, fast shutter speed or a tripod, room lights off...

Is It Ever Appropriate For An Associate To Wear Tennis/Athletic Shoes To An Interview?
To me, it's like having grammar and spelling errors on your resume. This is the one time you get to make a first impression to me. This is probably the best dressed and best behaved I'll ever see you, and you wear worn tennis shoes? Really?

The Bizarre and the Funny
Technician: "I'm so sorry we have to euthanize your pet today. We need to talk about the remains. We offer cremation -- both group or private -- or you can choose to dispose of the remains yourself."

Owner: "Oh, none of those."

Technician: "I'm sorry? Let me explain - group cremation just means the remains stay at the pet cemetery, and private means you get them back in a nice little container."

Owner: "No, none of those. Don't you just keep them all here?"

Um...
