Cardiac Auscultation and Phonocardiography
Though one of the most widely used diagnostic techniques in veterinary medicine, cardiac auscultation can be hard to “perfect” without help. No more! The online version of Cardiac Auscultation and Phonocardiography makes it easy. And on VIN, it's FREE.

The text and library of accompanying sound recordings will aid your interpretation of normal and abnormal heart sounds and PCGs and may help with your everyday workup of cardiac cases. Look for the sound-players located throughout the text.

Browse chapters using the Table of Contents or Search by topic.

Want a version that's available offline? The book with CD are available from the VIN Bookstore. (remember to login so you get your VIN Member discount).

Cats, Carriers and Vets: Tips on making it easier to get your cat to the vet (or wherever you need to take them)

Find it in the Client Handout page in the Forms and Handouts section of the VIN Library and on VeterinaryPartner.com, VIN's advertising free, public access client education website.

Use the VIN Calculators with your mobile device!
The VIN Wizards have been testing many of the VIN calculators extensively on iPads and iPhones and they're now available for mobile device users to try.

These mobile versions allow you to use calculator functions on mobile devices that don’t support Adobe Flash. The VIN geeks will continue tweaking them to make them more user friendly and we'd love your feedback.

Access the calculators and other mobile friendly VIN tools at https://www.vin.com/mobile.

Effect of short-term diphenhydramine administration on aqueous tear production in normal dogs
Short-term administration of oral diphenhydramine does not result in a significant decrease in aqueous tear production in normal dogs.

Evaluation of the Helicobacteraceae in the oral cavity of dogs
Wolinella spp rather than Helicobacter spp were the predominant Helicobacteraceae in the oral cavity of dogs. The oral cavity of dogs was apparently not a zoonotically important reservoir of Helicobacter spp that were non-Helicobacter pylori organisms.

Radiographic appearance of the thorax of clinically normal alpaca crias
No qualitative differences were found between LR and RL radiographs. The lungs were generally better inflated on VD projections, with more separation of the heart and diaphragm.

Toxic neutrophils from a dog
Your slide by slide identification was a fantastic refresher course/learning tool for me.

Advice on training new support staff; should associate veterinarian be doing the training?
Any advice out there on how to approach an associate who is starting to alienate the rest of the paraprofessional staff? This person has declined to help train and educate new team members yet complains when they do not perform as expected.

Client has no money and a suffering pet: Should she be allowed to attend the free euthanasia?
Our usual procedure in these cases is that we will foot the bill for euthanasia and group cremation, but the owner cannot be present. So, a woman calls today, never been to our hospital. Her young cat is obviously suffering. She was told our policy on this, but feels she just NEEDS to be with the cat when he dies and that we are being unfair.

Kitten launching pad
While I was going to the bathroom (standing, like any average male does), the little kitten pushed the door open and came flying in to jump on the sink. She uses the toilet as her launching pad, so there, midstream, she lands in a toilet bowl full of my urine. I gave her a very thorough bath. I had applied Revolution to her about 1 hour prior. The next day, I asked the tech to give me another dose. My tech wrote on the label PLEASE ALLOW TO DRY COMPLETELY BEFORE URINATING UPON.

Dermatology Therapeutics
February 15 - March 3, 2012

This course will include some current thoughts on the treatment of skin disease. See what some of the world's leading experts are using, what's new, and what some of the prevailing thoughts are about pathogenesis and what to do with some of your difficult and hard to treat cases. This is not an in-depth seminar, rather a quick overview to see what's happening in the treatment of skin disease.

Advanced Canine Rehabilitation
March 4 - March 28, 2012

This course will allow participants to explore rehabilitation therapy by means of a case-based approach. It is assumed that participants already have a basic understanding of veterinary physical rehabilitation. Cases selected for study will be influenced by input from the course participants.

CE opportunities for yourself, your veterinary technicians, receptionists, or practice managers, check out the Course Catalog on the CE Main Page.
