COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to show how to prepare and implement an in-house staff training program for any veterinary practice.
The course will have 3 online sessions presenting an overview of the training process, topics and teaching methods that will really work for your hospital, interactive message boards to discuss the real time sessions, and homework assignments giving you the opportunity to try the methods and systems with your team.
All office managers, practice managers, hospital administrators and supervisors are welcome to join the course and its discussions.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
WEEK 1 - DEFINING THE OBJECTIVE OF THE TRAINING
Content: The first week of the course will discuss what subjects need to be covered in a training program. We'll discuss the difference between new employee training, in-service education for the existing team and when to use remedial training.
WEEK 2 - DEVELOPING THE FORMAT
Content: During this session, we'll discuss the various techniques for delivering the message consistently. We'll also discuss some of the reasons why many training programs fail and how to avoid those mistakes.
WEEK 3 - DELIVERING THE MATERIAL
Content: This session will focus on how to get other staff members involved in delivering the information and make them look forward to it! We'll also discuss how to use handouts and quizzes effectively.
Textbook: There is no textbook required or recommended for this class
CE HOURS: 4.5 (RACE and VHMA approval)
LIBRARY MATERIALS:
Library materials will be made available prior to the topic week so participants will have plenty of time to prepare for the real time sessions and discussion.
MESSAGE BOARD DISCUSSIONS:
Message board discussions regarding the topic presented will begin on the day the course opens and continue for one week following the last real time session. These discussions will be held in the VSPN CE course area.
TUITION:
$77 ($69 early bird special if registered before November 17, 2005)
Students currently enrolled in and taking at least 2 classes or 5 units at an AVMA accredited or CAAHT approved Veterinary Technician Program may be eligible to receive a 50% discount off the regular rate for this course (upon verification of student status)

** NOTE: Registration will be closed when the maximum number of participants is reached or at 5pm ET the day of the first real time session.
