Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience
in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first
Real Time Session. Please arrive promptly at the start time; each Practice Session
is up to 1 hour in length.

Level and Prerequisites:
This
basic course will be open to to veterinarians, both owners and associates,
who are contemplating buying or selling a practice. PRAC130-0417: Successful Practice Transition
and Ownership Module 1 is a prerequisite for this course.

Course Information:
Each of the modules in the Successful Practice Transition and Ownership series
will identify key issues, common opportunities,
as well as specific risks in considering each one of these life changing decisions.
With the exception of the opportunity to become a veterinarian, the decision to own
a practice and the decision to sell is the biggest life changing choice a veterinarian makes.
The detailed sessions in these four modules will provide the information you need
to make a successful ownership decision.
The fourth in a series of 4 courses, this course will provide instruction on
the process of starting a new veterinary practice.
Week 1 (Real Time Session May 10, 2017):

Format: Audio
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- review your team member needs.
- understand the need for demographics and how to get them to select a location.
- distinguish leasing versus buying real estate as a start-up.
- understanding financing for a start-up.
- discuss design and architects.
- discuss income probabilities and plans.
- review overview subjects specifically for startups.
- establish inventory of equipment/drugs/computers.
- devise a management strategy for employees.
- outline what Services to offer.
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.
Required Textbook(s): There is no required textbook for this course.
About the Presenters:
Dr. Thom Haig received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University.
He is the owner of a 3 doctor small animal hospital in Knoxville, TN and a practice management
consultant specializing in staff utilization doctor production, staff doctor and client scheduling,
associate mentoring, production and buy-ins. He is also the Co-Editor of the
VIN Practice Management boards.
Edward Guiducci is the Principal of the Law Firm of Guiducci and Guiducci,
P.C. in Arvada, CO. He received his Juris Doctoral from Washburn University School of Law
and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Law Association as well as the American
and Colorado State Bar Associations.
Michael Porrello is a partner at Lacher, McDonald and Co., CPAs.
He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Certified Valuation Analyst in the state
of Florida. He leads the business valuation segment of his firm and works with veterinarians
throughout the country providing accounting, tax, and consulting services.

- Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to
VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course
must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a
VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
