COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is a comprehensive review of the most contemporary concepts of pain management in dogs and cats, from neurobiology to neuropharmacology to physical modalities, and "pulling it all together" in applications across a broad spectrum of clinical presentations.

The material will allow the practitioner to develop a deep understanding of pain management principles, broaden their clinical perspectives, and lead to practical enhancements of patient care in their practices. The course may also be used as a review and study tool for IVAPM's Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP) examination.

Week 1 (Tuesday, July 6): Neurophysiology of Pain (Downing)

Week 2 (Sunday, July 11): Neuropharmacology I (Honkavaara, Robertson) Week 3 (Sunday, July 18): Neuropharmacology II (Wright, Epstein) Week 4 (Sunday, July 25): Neuropharmacology III (Epstein, Wright) Week 5 (Sunday, August 1): Clinical Applications I - Acute Pain (Grubb, Slowiak) Week 6 (Sunday, August 8): Clinical Applications II - Non-pharmacologic Pain Management (Van Dyke, McCauley) Week 7 (Sunday, August 15): Clinical Applications III - Chronic Pain Management (Wall, Slowiak, Goldberg) Week 8 (Sunday, August 22): Clinical Applications IV - Emerging Modalities (Petty) MESSAGE BOARD DISCUSSIONS:
Discussions will begin on the start date of the course and will continue for 7 days following the last real time session.
