Course Information:
This course focuses on radiographic evaluation of osseous structures of dogs and cats, including parts of the appendicular and axial skeleton. This course is for beginner to mid-level experienced practitioners.


Learning Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • characterize bone lesions as malignant or benign and choose appropriate diagnostic paths.
  • characterize abnormalities of joints as malignant or benign and choose appropriate diagnostic paths.
  • evaluate areas of the appendicular skeleton.
  • evaluate the spine and pelvis, as well as diagnostic pitfalls, in order to maximize the information gained from radiographs of these areas.


Level and Prerequisites: This basic VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in musculoskeletal radiography.
Credit Approval: This course has been submitted (but not yet approved) for 7.5 hours of continuing education credit for veterinarians in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.


Course Agenda:

Week 1 (Real Time Session January 13, 2025): Bone Lesions
This session will learn radiographic evaluation methods for characterizing bone lesions as malignant or benign and choosing appropriate diagnostic paths.

Week 2 (Real Time Session January 20, 2025): Joints
This session will learn radiographic evaluation methods for characterizing abnormalities of joints as malignant or benign and choosing appropriate diagnostic paths.

Week 3 (Real Time Session January 27, 2025): Various Areas
This session will cover radiographic evaluation methods for the areas of the appendicular skeleton not mentioned above, such as the digits, and will evaluate several cases.

Week 4 (Real Time Session February 3, 2025): The Spine and Pelvis
This session will cover radiographic evaluation methods for the spine and pelvis, as well as diagnostic pitfalls, in order to maximize the information gained from radiographs of these areas.

Week 5 (Real Time Session February 10, 2025): Based Learning
This session will put everything learned thus far to use, discussing a multitude of cases covering all the areas previously covered in class, with a focus on next steps.
