Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience

Level and Prerequisites:
This
basic course will be open to general practice veterinarians
actively interested in veterinary dentistry. Participants in this course should
have an interest in taking better care of the dental needs of their patients.

Course Description:
This course in Veterinary Dentistry for the General Practitioner is designed to
allow discussions of current techniques used in veterinary dentistry.
Veterinarians practicing all levels of veterinary dentistry are invited to participate,
from the veterinarian just interested in getting more information in veterinary dentistry
to the Board Certified Veterinary Dentist.
The course will start out with oral examination and disease recognition,
then cover prevention and treatment of periodontal disease and continue to intraoral radiographs.
This course consists of four (4) 2-hour Real Time Session, supplemental library materials,
interactive message board discussions, a mandatory end-of-course test, and may include online multiple
choice quizzes (after each Real Time Session).
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to
- Recognize normal radiographic anatomy
- Radiographically diagnose common intraoral disease
- Know the indications for exodontia
- Understand the equipment and techniques for simple and surgical extractions
- Know the indications, drugs and landmarks for local anesthesia
- Understand current concepts in the treatment of Tooth Resorption and Stomatitis in the feline

About the Instructors:
Dr. Steve Holmstrom was one of the two original VIN Dental Consultants.
He has co-authored the textbook which the course is based on, Veterinary Dental Techniques,
which is in its 3rd edition and in 4 languages. He has also authored Veterinary Dentistry
for the Technician and Office Staff and edited two editions of Veterinary Clinics of North America.
He is in a dental only practice in San Carlos, California.
